Among mountains, lakes and terraced vineyards, the Val d’Ossola offers several vantage points from which to admire the area from a privileged perspective. Here are some of the most evocative.
The Sacred Mount Calvary of Domodossola
From the chapels of the Sacred Mount Calvary, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the view extends across the Domodossola basin and the vineyards that trace the surrounding slopes: one of the city’s most representative panoramas.
The Sacred Mount of Ghiffa
Further south, the Sacred Mount of Ghiffa offers sweeping views over Lake Maggiore, in a setting of tranquillity and great scenic and spiritual value.
Alpe Devero
For those seeking a high-altitude panorama, the plateau of Alpe Devero offers views of alpine lakes and the surrounding peaks, in a natural environment that remains largely untouched by human development.
Cannero’s lakeside promenade towards the castles
The lakeside promenade of Cannero Riviera is the ideal vantage point over the evocative Castles of Cannero, one of the most photographed views of Lake Maggiore.
The Borromean Islands from Stresa
From the lakeside promenade of Stresa, and even better from the boat connecting the Borromean Islands, you can enjoy one of the most classic and recognisable views of all Lake Maggiore.
For a map of the area’s viewpoints and scenic lookouts, refer to the Lake, Mountain and Ossola Valleys Tourist District.
The terrace at our winery
Our estate also offers one of the most evocative scenic lookouts over the Val d’Ossola: the terrace where we host our tastings overlooks a broad panorama embracing the surrounding vineyards and opening out across the entire valley, giving visitors the opportunity to admire Ossola from a privileged vantage point while tasting a glass of local wine. It is a panorama that brings together the natural landscape and the landscape shaped by human work in the vineyards, in one all-encompassing view.
A panorama to experience through the glass, too
Many of these views can also be found, on a smaller scale, in the vineyards surrounding Domodossola: during our tastings, it is possible to admire the Ossola landscape from a more intimate perspective, that of those who work the vines every day.
An invitation to slow down
Seeking out the viewpoints of the Val d’Ossola is also an invitation to slow your pace, taking time to observe the landscape from perspectives different from the usual ones: an exercise that helps us better understand how the area’s various elements, from lakes to mountains and vineyards, intertwine in a unique and coherent design.
Views from every elevation
The viewpoints of the Val d’Ossola are not found only at high altitude: even from the valley floor, walking among the vineyard rows at sunset, it is possible to enjoy deeply evocative vistas, with the light casting warm hues over the terraced slopes and mountain profiles standing out in the background.
A final reflection: the variety of viewpoints described confirms how the Val d’Ossola can offer different perspectives of itself, each able to tell a different facet of the same remarkable area.
Every viewpoint tells a different story of the same unique valley.
Every gaze reveals a different perspective on the same land.
Every panorama, a new perspective on the same land.
One final thought: stopping to take in the view, without haste, remains perhaps the simplest yet most effective way to truly appreciate the beauty of this area.
Every gaze, a new perspective on the same land.
Every corner, a new perspective on the same land.
Whether it is a natural high-altitude lookout or the view from our terrace among the vineyard rows, every viewpoint in the Val d’Ossola tells the same landscape from a different perspective, an invitation to discover the valley one vista at a time.
